Hey, everyone! Happy Pride Month! The start of this month really inspired me to break out my bright colors, get creative, and create a look to celebrate the movement! I had so much fun creating this look, and I may be posting more Pride-inspired looks before the month is over!

Kat Von D Serpentina Palette

Hey guys! I hope you’ve all had a fabulous week. A few days ago, the Kat Von D Serpentina palette launched on the KVD brand and Sephora websites. Naturally, I had to get it to try out for you guys! I ordered it Tuesday and it was waiting for me when I got home from work today. Sephora never lets me down with that Flash 2 Day shipping.

I should start by saying that I had some reservations about this palette. I wanted to purchase it regardless so I could review it for you guys, but based on my experience with some of KVD’s previous palettes, I wasn’t sure I would end up liking it!

Let’s discuss the packaging first. It’s a very long palette, similar to the length of Jeffree Star’s Beauty Killer. Serpentina is constructed out of cardboard but it feels very sturdy, especially with its magnetic closure. The palette itself is pretty weighty in-hand. I didn’t expect the pans to be set so deeply inside the palette, but I suppose it’s necessary in order to make room for the jar of pigment and the mirror. The sifter jar of pigment pops out of the tray and is made of plastic, which doesn’t bother me because it feels fairly sturdy. I like that the top of the lid is transparent so you can see the pigment inside.

I swatched all colors the same way to show the differences in pigmentation between the shades:

  • Bloodmilk: Great pigmentation, very creamy. A little kick up in the pan after swatching, but nothing major.
  • Medusa: Great pigmentation. Nothing negative to say about this shade except that I would have preferred a different color, given that we have Prophet!
  • Ankh: Fairly pigmented for a black glitter eyeshadow, but we have hella fallout with this one. It’s definitely the worst with fallout in this palette!
  • Queen: Very nice, beautiful shade. Good pigmentation, good application, no chunkiness to the formula. Nothing negative to say!
  • Hieroglyph: Performs similarly to Queen, only a little less pigmented. There’s nothing glaringly awesome or glaringly negative to say about either of these shades.
  • Nile: Absolutely beautiful color, but the formula leaves a lot to be desired. Probably the 3rd worst with fallout in this palette. While really pigmented, the formula balled up under my finger while in the pan. Lots of kick-up in the pan as well.
  • Scarab: Great color, but the 2nd worst (or maybe tied for 1st?) about fallout in this palette. The same issues as Nile, honestly. You can see the clumps in the swatch picture below!
  • Venom: A decent matte. I know purples are hard to formulate, so I will take it easy on this shade. It could have certainly been worse.
  • Prophet: I was a little skeptical to try Prophet, as this was my first loose shadow that I’ve ever messed with. I swatched it loose on my arm, but when I applied it to my mobile lid, I dampened the brush with Fix+ first. LAWD. The pigmentation, the shine. A little went a very long way and it blended easily with the other shadows I used.

In the future, I will definitely use a transition shade before working with these colors. I was able to do a decent job on my quick & dirty EOTD above, but that was mostly thanks to a previously used blending brush covered with a peachy neutral shadow haha. It’s a bummer that this palette doesn’t come with a transition shade included, but I also think that helps keep the palette extremely versatile. You can literally pair it with anything! I will certainly continue playing with this palette, but so far I am very impressed and very much enjoying Serpentina. I think this palette is an excellent alternative for those who want to start wearing colored shadows but aren’t interested in neon brights. The colors in this palette also seem like they’ll look perfect on all skintones and would look great for fall!

Who else managed to get their hands on Serpentina? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to see the looks you come up with! ❀

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Quads

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all having a good week so far!

A while back, Kat Von D launched a range of eyeshadow quads based off her widely successful Shade and Light palette. The quads came in four different color schemes and were priced at $26 USD each. They appear to be permanent installments to the KVD line. When they launched, I bought Rust and Sage.

kat von d shade and light eyeshadow sage quad

The packaging of these palettes is really good. The outer case is made of sturdy plastic and the compact size makes them excellent for travel. The pans are large, with the Base color larger than the others. I think this is a smart move because that’s the color you’ll use more and will likely hit pan on before the rest, so giving you more of it increases the longevity of using the palette.

The formula of both quads is consistent. Both are very creamy and pigmented. The shadows swatch and apply easily. Of the two, my personal favorite is Rust, but that’s only because the colors suit my skintone better, not the actual quality of the product.

kat von d shade and light eyeshadow rust swatches

When I get products, I like to compare them to my collection to see what dupes I can find. The Viseart Neutral Matte palette contains some pretty close dupes of the shades in the Rust quad. The base color of the KVD quad is pinker and the brown and white are both a touch warmer, but when it’s actually on the lid, the difference is indiscernable.

Overall, the KVD quads are excellent quality products that are great for travel and perfect for adding a little spice to your collection! The colors of the quads are expertly curated and there is something to flatter every eye color in the line.

Have any of you purchased the KVD quads? What did you think? Let me know in the comments ❀

Dupe Alert: Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette vs. Melt Radioactive Stack

Hey everyone! I haven’t seen many posts online about dupes for the Melt Radioactive Stack. Since I have the KVD Mi Vida Loca Palette, which is pretty much the pinnacle bright palette, I decided to compare the two!

kat von d mi vida loca vs melt radioactive stack swatches dupes

While the colors were close, there were no exact dupes. Overall, I found that the shades in the Melt Radioactive Stack were much more vivid and neon than Mi Vida Loca. The Radioactive Stack was also much more pigmented and I found that I didn’t have to dig into the pans for good color payoff.

While Mi Vida Loca was also pigmented and easy to work with, I feel like the colors just weren’t as vivid. They felt like more wearable versions of the colors in the Radioactive Stack. That was most apparent in Neon vs. Fran. As you can see above, Neon really pops while Fran is pigmented, but a more mild, banana yellow.

The finishes of Radon and Xenon also made a huge difference. The subtle color shifts in the pigments make them decidedly unique, especially compared to the matte Analogue and shimmer of Vinyl.

I don’t dislike Mi Vida Loca by any means. It was a crazy good deal and the color selection makes it a great palette for those who love color and also for those who want to incorporate more bright colors into your eyeshadow collection. However, I think that Melt Radioactive is a better fit if you want vivid, in-your-face eyeshadows. It is also a permanent addition to the Melt collection, while Mi Vida Loca is no longer for sale.

Do you own Melt Radioactive or Mi Vida Loca? Which is your favorite? ❀

Valentine’s Day inspired makeup!

valentines day inspired makeup

Hey everyone! I decided to do a glowy, softer look last night in honor of Valentine’s Day! πŸ’–

Face:

  • L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion in N2
  • Sephora Gel Serum Concealer in Meringue
  • Hourglass Mood Exposure & Mood Light
  • Benefit Hoola
  • Sephora Contour Powder in Tranquil
  • Kat Von D Thunderstruck for highlight

Brows:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Taupe
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

Eyes:

  • Viseart Neutral Matte Palette
  • Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma
  • Kat Von D Thunderstruck for brow highlight & inner corners
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Lips:

  • Pink Velvet by Lime Crime

This was my first time wearing the L’Oreal cushion foundation. It was very lightweight and comfortable, and the coverage was natural and skin-like, but after a few hours I noticed some dry patches became more noticeable. The past week has been bitter cold though, and my skin is absolutely parched, which could have caused the patches to appear.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! πŸ’•

Bold FOTD with new products!

IMG_9463

A snap of my makeup from last night ✨ I tried out a lot of new products and wanted to do something bold for a night out.

Face:

  • Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation in Porcelain
  • Sephora Gel Serum Concealer in Meringue
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit: Luminous Bronze Light, Mood Exposure, and Dim Light
  • Sephora Contour Powder in Tranquil
  • Becca Moonstone & Kat Von D Thunderstruck for highlight

Brows:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Taupe

Eyes:

  • Colourpop x Kathleen Lights Telepathy and Midnight from Where The Night Is
  • Viseart Neutral Matte Palette
  • Kat Von D Thunderstruck for brow highlight & inner corners
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Lips:

  • Lip Kit by Kylie in True Brown K

This was my first time wearing the Chantecaille foundation, Sephora concealer, and Colourpop shadows out and about. Overall, I’m really impressed with them all!

First impressions: The Chantecaille foundation is very lightweight and comfortable on the skin. It feels like nothing’s there! It’s not drying at all and while I noticed some slight creasing around my mouth (like with all foundations I use), this was much less noticeable. The Sephora concealer has comparable covers to my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer but doesn’t look as cakey under my eyes.

“Go shawty, it’s ya birthday” Sephora haul!

Hello everyone! My birthday was this past weekend, so naturally I had to do a little Sephora haul to treat myself! πŸ™‚

I was fortunate enough to get a Sephora gift card for my birthday, so between that and the $25 off $50 promo, I was able to do quite a haul!

viseart palette asian beauty sephora haul

I bought another May Coop Raw Sauce, since I’m almost out of my current bottle, Viseart’s Neutral Matte palette, KVD Santa Sangre, Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Distortion, Jack Black’s Comfort & Joy set, and my Rouge birthday gift – a NARS pencil duo.

Now, for some swatches! I was really excited to test out the Neutral Matte palette after loving the Dark Matte palette. I think they will work really well together, but the Neutral Matte will also be a great everyday palette as well.

viseart neutral matte palette swatches

There are a good mix of warm and cool tones in this palette, making it super versatile. The shadows themselves are really pigmented, especially the terracotta and the black! I can see myself creating a lot of looks with this palette for all sorts of occasions.

nars and kat von d santa sangre swatches

The NARS pencils (Rikugien and Cruella) are amazing! I love the pigmentation and they’re super creamy to apply. Rikugien is a perfect nude/MLBB lip color for me and I could see it being flattering on a lot of different skintones.

Kat Von D Santa Sangre is a “poison apple” red. It’s bold and warm-toned, but it’s very pigmented and applies beautifully. I’m so excited to wear this out and about during the holidays!

All in all, I consider this a successful birthday haul! What did you all get with your Sephora discount codes?! ❀

Sephora & Ulta Haul!

Since the Sephora sale was this past weekend, I decided to buy some things for myself and a gift or two. 20% off all purchases is nothing to sneeze at, and I have to admit I went a little ham. Ulta was also having a really great promo, 200 bonus points on a purchase of $45 or more, so I got a few things that I’d been wanting from there as well! Here’s the full haul:

From Sephora, I got: Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette, Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster, Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, Boscia Supercharge Overnight Moisture, Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Serum, and the Boscia Sake Treatment Water. I also redeemed some points to get the 500-point YSL set, a deluxe-sized MUFE HD Loose Powder, and a deluxe-sized Glamglow Flashmud Treatment. I’ve been wanting to try the MUFE Loose Powder for a while, so I had to jump on these point perks. The YSL set contains deluxe-sized mascara, Touche Eclat Blur Primer, Tint-in-Oil, and Black Opium perfume. The Blur Primer is one of my HGs, but I am really excited to try the other products!

I ended up placing two orders, so in the second one I added the Playful Perks sample bag rather than the 20% off Rouge code. It has a ton of samples in it, including NARS Audacious mascara, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara, Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser Invisible Oil, Stella McCartney perfume, Sephora Oil Infusion in Bubbly Grenadine, Glamglow ThirstyCleanse Hydrating Cleanser, and Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. This sample bag was available with only a $25 purchase, so I think it’s a pretty great deal. You get to try so many different products!

From Ulta, I got: Becca Backlight Priming Filter, NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks in Sandstorm and Tea & Cookies.

I’ve already tried several samples of the skincare products by Boscia and Fresh, so I’m expecting to really like them! The Caudalie Vinosource serum is one of my HGs. It’s so moisturizing and works really great with my sensitive skin. I’ve also tried a couple samples of the Becca primer, so I’m really pumped to dive into the full size. It makes my skin looks so luminous and amazing!

The Kat Von D Palette, NYX lipsticks, and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer were all impulse purchases. I decided to try them all tonight to see what I thought. As for the Kat Von D Palette, I love it so far! The design of the palette is really cool and there are so many colors! It’s a great palette to add to your collection if you’re a color junkie or if you’re like me and have a ton of neutral palettes and want to add a little variety to your looks. I’m really impressed with the shadow formulaβ€”it’s very buttery, soft, and extremely pigmented. There is a good mix of matte and shimmer shadows, as well as neutrals, so you can totally do a cohesive eye look using just this palette.

kat von d mi vida loca eyeshadow palette

The Kevyn Aucoin SSE and NYX lipsticks, however, are not keepers for me. I picked the wrong shade for the SSE, so it was much too fair. The formula is extremely thick and can be used as a concealer, highlighter, or as a foundation. It didn’t work with my moisturizer when I tried to mix it, and looked extremely cakey when I applied it straight to my skin, so this will definitely be returned the next time I go to Sephora.

The NYX lipsticks were okay. They have a very creamy formula that is easy to work with, but they don’t dry down matte like I expected them to. They just stay tacky on the lips, which bugs me to death. I know plenty of other people who love this lipstick formula, but it’s just not for me. Sandstorm, a tan-nude, isn’t a bad color. It reminds me a lot of a slightly darker KVD’s Bow N Arrow. I’m not feeling Tea & Cookies, though, as I’m not into baby pink colors. It also took a few layers to look completely opaque, so it felt… gunky on my lips.

All in all, I think this was a pretty successful haul! I can’t wait to start using all my new things. Did you guys pick up anything during the Rouge sale? Let me know what you got in the comments! ❀

Swatches & First Impressions: Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick Lolita Duo!

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share some swatches and a mini-review of Kat Von D’s new Lolita Duo. As most of you know, Lolita, a “chestnut rose,” has been highly coveted in the makeup community. It’s constantly going in and out of stock because people simply can’t get enough! It’s the perfect rose for some, a grungey brown for a few, and a dusty mauve for the rest, depending on your undertone. I’d never owned Lolita before, so when this duo, containing minis of Lolita I and Lolita II, I bought them almost immediately to test the two out.

kat von d lolita lip duoTop to bottom: Lolita II, Lolita I.

Lolita II is a “chestnut brick pink” and is supposed to be close to the original Lolita shade, which changed slightly when KVD reformulated her ELLs to a vegan formula.

kat von d lolita i swatchLolita I

kat von d lolita ii swatchLolita II

Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick formula is super lightweight, creamy, and buildable. It dries down quickly and has great staying power. I’ve always loved her formula, but the length of the applicator wand was a bit too long, and caused it to be a little unwieldy when I applied the product. That problem is fixed with the mini size of these Lolita tubes, though.

After just checking the Sephora site, I’ve come to realize that the Duo is completely sold out! I don’t know if there will be a restock, but I hope everyone that wanted it got a chance to purchase it. Which Lolita is your favorite? ❀

My Makeup/Skincare Wishlist

Hey everyone! I hope you’ve all had a bomb weekend. I’ve spent the last two days curled up in bed watching Friends on Netflix because I’m sick. 😦 So naturally I haven’t had much of an opportunity to wear makeup, or really do much other than cuddle with my cat, Yung Mollz, browse Instagram, and online shop for more makeup!

I’ve compiled a wishlist of what I want to buy in the next couple months. Luckily, with the Sephora sale in November and my birthday in December (already requesting Sephora gift cards!), I can get the things I want without making my wallet cry too much!

viseart dark matte eyeshadow palette

Viseart Dark Matte Palette. LAWD, those colors! I am a sucker for warm neutrals and burnt oranges. I’ve heard such good things about Viseart’s quality from a variety of bloggers & vloggers around the interwebz, but Jaclyn Hill’s Sephora Haul video pushed me over the edge! The swatches were so pigmented that I decided this was the next thing to buy!

fresh seaberry nutrition booster

Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster. This oil is described as “an antioxidant-rich booster of concentrated oils and extracts specifically designed to be mixed with face and eye creams for amplified protection and nourishment.” I’ve been working through a large sample of this oil and I am pretty impressed with it! A couple drops mixed in with my moisturizer keeps my skin more hydrated throughout the day. I will be buying a full-size of this when I’m done with the rest of this sample.

kat von d studded kiss lipstick solo

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Solo. This color is described as a “metallic gold-kissed tangerine.” I think it’s such a beautiful color that is flattering on a lot of different skintones. I’ve also heard that KVD’s reworked the formula for these new shades, making them creamier and long-wearing.

hourglass ambient lighting powder ethereal light

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light. I love the texture of the ALPs. They’re so finely milled and do a great job of blurring imperfections. I actually use Mood Light as a light, glowy blush! I want to use Ethereal Light to set my undereye area to brighten it up a bit. I have super dry skin, so I’m always chasing the glow.

boscia sake treatment water

Boscia Sake Treatment Water. I love love love everything by Boscia, so when I saw this at Sephora, I had to get a sample to try it out. You would use this after cleansing and toning, before your serum. I used this every morning for a couple weeks and I did notice a difference in how soft my skin was!

Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think of these products, and what you have on your own wishlist! ❀
