Jeffree Star Beauty Killer Palette, Skin Frost Highlighters, and Gemini Liquid Lipstick!

Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a great week so far. Today, I have a mega review post for you—all Jeffree Star. I have the Beauty Killer Palette, the Skin Frost highlighters, and Gemini!

Beauty Killer Palette. The Beauty Killer palette boasts 10 shades, each weighing about .09 oz. For reference, a standard MAC eyeshadow is .04 oz. The palette itself is cardboard with a magnetic closure and very slim. The shadows come in three different formulae: matte, frost, and glitter. The palette offers both bright and neutral shades. The pans are huge and are arranged into quads to easily create different looks.

All the shadows in this palette are super pigmented, but Rich Bitch is a bit of a problem child. It’s a beautiful shadow but feels a little gritty when swatched and is a bit of a struggle to apply evenly. The matte shadows do not feel chalky and are easy to work with. My personal favorite is Courtney. It’s such a beautiful shade and is perfect for those transitions! The glitter shadows are also easy to work with, but I do wish there was more glitter in the swatches. I suppose that’s a typical struggle with glitter shadows, though.

The Beauty Killer Palette retails for $45. Honestly, I think the price is a steal for what you get—10 gigantic shadows with a great formula. This palette would definitely be best for someone who is either very comfortable working with bright colors or is interested in trying them out. Overall, it’s an excellent palette and one you could use for a variety of looks. The fact that it contains a transition shade is a huge plus for me because that means you don’t have to pull in shadows from other palettes if you don’t want to!

Skin Frost Highlighters. I am straight up obsessed with these babies. Each compact contains 0.5 oz of product (roughly twice as much as a Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector)! At $29, this product is a steal. I purchased the bundle to save a little cash and to get a chance to review them all. There are some slight discrepancies with the formula between shades. King Tut is much creamier and softer than Peach Goddess and Mint Condition, while Ice Cold feels a little less creamy and more dense.

jeffree star skin frost highlighter swatches

All of them swatch and apply beautifully though. Ice Cold is a white gold on my skin tone. I expected it to be a replica of Becca Pearl, but I actually think this highlighter is much more flattering. I also found that Ice Cold did not leave a white cast on the skin in indirect light. Peach Goddess is without a doubt my favorite of all the Skin Frosts! It’s beautiful in the pan but when applied, it looks like the most perfect peachy gold highlight. Mint Condition may look intimidating, but I found that unless I really packed it on my skin, it looked like a super unique silvery highlight, not straight-up green. King Tut is a beautiful bronze gold, but is much too dark for my skintone, like I suspected.

I would be remiss not to include that there have been reports surfacing online that these highlighters are easily damaged during shipping, particularly King Tut. I did not experience these issues and found that my order was very well packed, with each compact double-wrapped with bubble wrap and paper. However, since I bought the whole bundle AND the palette, that could be why mine didn’t shatter, since the box was very full. I think these are exquisite highlighters and that, unless you’re ordering King Tut, the risk is not large enough to justify not purchasing them. If you’re skeptical, you could always purchase them through Beautylish instead of the Jeffree Star site. I haven’t heard of as many incidents with orders purchased from there, but makeup is particularly fragile and damage during shipping is not necessarily unheard of. I think this is just something we makeup addicts have to deal with from time to time. Luckily, powder compacts can be repressed!

Like I said above, I think the Skin Frost highlighters are exquisite. They are high-quality, unique colors, and very reasonably priced when you consider how much product you’re actually getting. I cannot wait for Jeffree to release more colors in the future, because I will likely want them all!

Gemini Velour Liquid Lipstick. I have discussed the Velour Liquid Lipsticks a few different times on my blog. I recently used Gemini in an FOTD that I posted.

jeffree star gemini liquid lipstick urban decay glitter

It is described as a “terracotta warm-toned nude.” It actually reminds me a lot of Kat Von D’s Lolita II, but it’s not as orange. I found Gemini to be extremely wearable and flattering on my skintone and the formula is just as awesome as ever. This is the first Velour Liquid Lipstick that I’ve purchased for several months and I have noticed a strong rootbeer float scent has been added to the formula. I am not particularly sensitive to scents, but since I’m not crazy about rootbeer (I know, I know) it was off-putting at first. However, the scent does not linger after the lipstick dries down, so I’m cool with it, but I wanted to mention the scent since I know there are people out there who greatly dislike scented cosmetics.

This concludes my Jeffree Star Cosmetics mega-review! Are any of these products on your wishlist? Let me know in the comments ❤

Ulta haul!

Hey everyone! I got these products over the last month or so using gift cards from my birthday and Christmas. I picked up some old things, some new things, some makeup and skincare!

ulta christmas haul makeup skincare shampoo

Here’s everything that I got:

  • OGX Tsubaki Blossom Shampoo – This is a repurchase. I switched to the OGX line after the Herbal Essences Colorstay Shampoo I had been using started breaking my scalp out. The Tsubaki Blossom is definitely my favorite! It makes my hair super soft and smells amazing.
  • Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water – This was an impulse purchase that I saw when I was standing in the checkout line. Omg. Best impulse buy ever. It’s so gentle and removes makeup effortlessly. I can remove my whole face using only 2 cotton rounds, and with micellar water, you don’t even have to rinse! It’s extremely gentle and my face doesn’t feel irritated or tight after I use it. I definitely recommend it.
  • Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation – This is a new product that Maybelline recently released. I’ve never been into matte foundations, but the fact that it was matte and hydrating piqued my interest. The shade I picked, 10 Porcelain Ivory, was a touch too pink. I’m not completely sold on matte foundation yet, but this formula didn’t feel drying, which made me really happy. I’m going to continue to play with this and see if it mixes well with other foundations.
  • Laura Gellar Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey – I wanted to love this product so much, as it’s a cult favorite among makeup enthusiasts. It was a bit too dark for my liking though. I ended up returning it before I took the swatch pictures below.
  • Urban Decay Tonic eyeshadow single – I’ve been wanting this eyeshadow for months, but it’s been sold out online or in-stores every time I’ve tried to buy it. I managed to snag the last one when I was in Ulta last time, and I’m pumped about it! It’s such a beautiful lavender color with a blue duochrome shift.
  • Becca Moonstone – I love this highlighter. It’s a lovely white gold color that can give you a soft glow or be built up to highlight on fleek levels. Becca’s formula is unparalleled, too. Their pressed highlighters are so finely milled and creamy, which make them really easy to work with.
  • Anastasia Self-Made palette – This is a great palette overall. It has a great mix of neutrals with brighter colors. The eyeshadow formula is very pigmented and buttery, but Spirit Rock and Pink Champagne are a little chalky. All shadows swatch well with minimal fallout.

Product Review – IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face Contour Palette

Hey guys! I hope everyone’s had a great week and is looking forward to this weekend. I know I am! 🙂

The IT Cosmetics My Sculpted Face Palette is my first contour palette! I’ve seen a few reviews that it’s great for light and fair skintones, so I decided to buy it to try it out.

it cosmetics my sculpted face palette

First things first, I’m not crazy about the design of the front of the palette. A lot of IT Cosmetics’ products, like the CC creams and powders, have a very minimal and sleek look, but I wish that look was carried over to this product as well.

inside of it cosmetics my sculpted face palette

The inside of the palette, however, looks very nice. The pans are large enough for contour brushes to fit. The contour powders are pretty light and are offered in warmer and cooler shades so you can customize your contour the way you want. The palette also comes with a matte white highlight and a shimmer light pink highlight.

it cosmetics my sculpted face swatches

While the powders in general were soft and finely-milled, some of them had pigmentation issues. The white matte highlight was a little chalky and hard to build up, as was the 4th swatched shade and the darkest shade. The rest were decently pigmented, but this palette was clearly made for a more natural, subtle contour. Blending the contour shades was fairly easy as well, which is always a good thing.

All in all, this palette is suitable for lighter skintones. But since it only comes in one shade, WOC would likely be better off trying a contour kit that caters to specific skintones rather than a one-size-fits-some version such as this.

Given the quality issues, however, I’m not entirely convinced this was worth the price ($38) for only one truly suitable contour shade and one effective highlight. I wanted to love this, but I just don’t think it’s the contour palette for me.

Has anyone else used this palette? Let me hear your reactions to it! ❤

Sephora & Ulta Haul!

Since the Sephora sale was this past weekend, I decided to buy some things for myself and a gift or two. 20% off all purchases is nothing to sneeze at, and I have to admit I went a little ham. Ulta was also having a really great promo, 200 bonus points on a purchase of $45 or more, so I got a few things that I’d been wanting from there as well! Here’s the full haul:

From Sephora, I got: Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette, Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster, Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, Boscia Supercharge Overnight Moisture, Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Serum, and the Boscia Sake Treatment Water. I also redeemed some points to get the 500-point YSL set, a deluxe-sized MUFE HD Loose Powder, and a deluxe-sized Glamglow Flashmud Treatment. I’ve been wanting to try the MUFE Loose Powder for a while, so I had to jump on these point perks. The YSL set contains deluxe-sized mascara, Touche Eclat Blur Primer, Tint-in-Oil, and Black Opium perfume. The Blur Primer is one of my HGs, but I am really excited to try the other products!

I ended up placing two orders, so in the second one I added the Playful Perks sample bag rather than the 20% off Rouge code. It has a ton of samples in it, including NARS Audacious mascara, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara, Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser Invisible Oil, Stella McCartney perfume, Sephora Oil Infusion in Bubbly Grenadine, Glamglow ThirstyCleanse Hydrating Cleanser, and Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. This sample bag was available with only a $25 purchase, so I think it’s a pretty great deal. You get to try so many different products!

From Ulta, I got: Becca Backlight Priming Filter, NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks in Sandstorm and Tea & Cookies.

I’ve already tried several samples of the skincare products by Boscia and Fresh, so I’m expecting to really like them! The Caudalie Vinosource serum is one of my HGs. It’s so moisturizing and works really great with my sensitive skin. I’ve also tried a couple samples of the Becca primer, so I’m really pumped to dive into the full size. It makes my skin looks so luminous and amazing!

The Kat Von D Palette, NYX lipsticks, and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer were all impulse purchases. I decided to try them all tonight to see what I thought. As for the Kat Von D Palette, I love it so far! The design of the palette is really cool and there are so many colors! It’s a great palette to add to your collection if you’re a color junkie or if you’re like me and have a ton of neutral palettes and want to add a little variety to your looks. I’m really impressed with the shadow formula—it’s very buttery, soft, and extremely pigmented. There is a good mix of matte and shimmer shadows, as well as neutrals, so you can totally do a cohesive eye look using just this palette.

kat von d mi vida loca neutral swatches

The Kevyn Aucoin SSE and NYX lipsticks, however, are not keepers for me. I picked the wrong shade for the SSE, so it was much too fair. The formula is extremely thick and can be used as a concealer, highlighter, or as a foundation. It didn’t work with my moisturizer when I tried to mix it, and looked extremely cakey when I applied it straight to my skin, so this will definitely be returned the next time I go to Sephora.

The NYX lipsticks were okay. They have a very creamy formula that is easy to work with, but they don’t dry down matte like I expected them to. They just stay tacky on the lips, which bugs me to death. I know plenty of other people who love this lipstick formula, but it’s just not for me. Sandstorm, a tan-nude, isn’t a bad color. It reminds me a lot of a slightly darker KVD’s Bow N Arrow. I’m not feeling Tea & Cookies, though, as I’m not into baby pink colors. It also took a few layers to look completely opaque, so it felt… gunky on my lips.

All in all, I think this was a pretty successful haul! I can’t wait to start using all my new things. Did you guys pick up anything during the Rouge sale? Let me know what you got in the comments! ❤

LA Splash Liquid Lipstick Haul

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you’re all ready for Halloweekend. It’s sure to be a great one.

I’ve really been in the Halloween spirit the past couple weeks. Watching Halloween movies, gathering everything for my costume… It’s been the most festive time! I recently placed an order with LA Splash for some spooky liquid lipsticks in some really neat colors.

la splash liquid lipsticksFront to back: Nagini, Bellatrix, Raven Claw

As you know, I have an obsession with liquid lipsticks, so I’m always trying to expand my collection. LA Splash has a really diverse range of colors—there’s literally something for everyone! Their formula is also really great—it’s extremely pigmented, smooth, and the staying power is unbelievable. Seriously. I have had LA Splash liquid lipsticks that have lasted through a steak dinner!

I ordered 3 Smitten Lip Tints: Nagini/Komodo, a deep green; Bellatrix/Bella Donna, a dark blue-purple; and Raven/Raven Claw, a vampy burgundy. I’d been wanting to try these shades for a long time, so I decided to take the plunge in the spirit of Halloween!

IMG_7767Bellatrix/Bella Donna: I really love this color. It applied smoothly, wasn’t patchy, and dried quickly. It’s a really unique purple color, more blue than red. I think it would be flattering on a wide variety of skintones.

IMG_7773Raven/Raven Claw: This is a really nice color, but it goes on very patchy. This isn’t uncommon for dark liquid lipsticks, but it’s nevertheless annoying, especially with a formula that has to be applied quickly in order for it to dry correctly. This color is also easily dupable, so you could undoubtedly find a less patchy version for a similar price point.

IMG_7774Nagini/Komodo: First of all, I LOVE this color. I didn’t expect it to be such a beautiful green or to look so wearable. However. I do not love how it applies. It’s patch city and really uneven. I had to apply two coats for it to be completely opaque, but given how fast this formula dries, that is not a viable, comfortable option. I’m going to keep trying to make this work because the color is fabulous.

What are your favorite LA Splash liquid lipsticks? Let me know in the comments! ❤

NYC trip and haul!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the long absence—I’ve been all over the place in the past week!

A friend and I took a day trip to NYC earlier this week (two 9 hour bus rides). It was my first time in the city and I. fell. in. love. It is such an amazing place! I can’t wait to go back for a longer trip in the future.

Naturally, being the makeup addict I am, I had a shopping list of places I wanted to go to and things I wanted to buy! I tried to keep it reasonable so I would have a reason to go back in the future (as if I needed one).

The first place we went after getting some New York pizza was the Bite Beauty Lip Lab!!! This was by far my favorite stop and the one I had looked forward to the most. It did not disappoint.

bite beauty lip lab

I had two different colors in mind: the perfect everyday MLBB and a deep berry red. For the MLBB, I wanted something that was close to my natural lip color, just so I could even the tone of my lips out on the daily. I chose a Matte Creme finish for both, and picked a Violet scent for the MLBB, while I opted for a Cherry scent for the berry color.

In addition to the two lipsticks, I also bought Bite’s Whipped Cherry Fruit Scrub while I was in the Lip Lab. They used it on us to prep our lips, and it worked so well that I couldn’t leave without buying it!

Later that evening, after doing a lot more sightseeing, we went to Times Square. Holy crap, people. It was amazing. There was so much energy and the lights! I can’t.

times square

After we did a little exploring in Sephora (huge store, so selection, much wow) and MAC, we went to Inglot. I had really been looking forward to swatching their shadows in person, and naturally I had a shopping list already made! I was looking to make a dupe of the Lime Crime Venus Palette. I used to own it, but destashed it as it wasn’t getting much use. Lately though, I’d been pining for colors from that palette, so I used that as an opportunity to try Inglot shadows. I walked out with exactly what I wanted, but I also bought a nail polish that I thought complemented the palette I made.

I haven’t really had a chance to play with my new goodies yet, as I just got back yesterday morning and I’m exhausted, but based on swatches, I’m happy with my purchases! I will definitely post a look using these shadows in the near future!

All in all, I had a great time in New York and I can’t wait to go back, especially since that means I can buy more makeup! haha Have any of you been to, or live in, NYC? What are your favorite places to shop for makeup? Any holes-in-the-wall that I should know about before my next visit?!

Sephora & Ulta Mini-Haul

After having a busy Saturday with friends, I decided to take some ‘me’ time and do a little beauty shopping to relax today. I was mainly browsing, but I did manage to pick up a few things to try and a couple replacements as well.

As you can see, I went a little sheet mask crazy! Sheet masks are one of the latest fad items in skincare, particularly because of the rise in popularity of Asian Beauty and K-Beauty skincare products and routines. I love sheet masks because they’re hydrating (great for dry skin types) and quite pampering for a relatively low price point.

caudalie toner and living proof hair products

too cool for school tony moly boscia sheet masks

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo & Dry Shampoo. I actually meant to pick up the PHD conditioner, so I will have to go back to Ulta and exchange the shampoo. However, their dry shampoo is really great. I have pretty oily hair and it does a great job of absorbing excess oil without making my hair look or feel gummy or gross.

Caudalie Moisturizing Toner. This is a repurchase but it’s my HG toner. It’s soothing, gentle, and removes all traces of oil, dirt, and makeup. I’ve tried several toners and while they did the job, none of them were quite right. Most were too harsh and drying, and some just smelled god-awful. I will repurchase this forever!

Boscia Tsubaki Oil Deep Hydration & Sake Brightening Hydrogel Masks. I’ve been wanting to try these for a while and finally decided to take the plunge. These are two piece masks, designed for a custom fit to your face. The Tsubaki Oil mask claims to replenish, soften, and deeply hydrate, while the Sake mask will brighten, firm, and hydrate. I’m really looking forward to trying these!

Too Cool for School Egg Cream Mask. I’ve seen a lot of rave reviews about this mask by a variety of people online, including Ssssamanthaa from Batalash. The mask claims to “instantly hydrate for a bright and radiant complexion.” Really looking forward to trying it and telling you all about it in a sheet mask review post in the future.

Tony Moly I’m Real Aloe & Makgeolli Masks. I mentioned Tony Moly Sheet Masks in my September Favorites post. The Aloe masks are by far my favorite and I will continue to repurchase those. Ulta had several different “flavors” of the Tony Moly masks in stock, so I picked up the Makgeolli one to try out.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts about them?
