Night out FOTD featuring Subculture!

26870028_2031022310512630_7044404401674387456_n

Hey guys!

I have been absolutely in love with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette lately 😍 I attempted my first halo eye with it for a night out, and it inspired me to go for a total vampy grunge look.

Base: Fenty Beauty primer and foundation in shade #120, Tarte Shape Tape concealer, Marc Jacobs Beauty O!mega bronzer, NARS Orgasm blush

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (in Taupe and Medium Brown) and clear Brow Gel

Glow: Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill highlighter in Champagne Pop

Lips: Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick in Trust Issues

I have seen some Youtubers say that they’ve had issue with blending out the colors in Subculture. I made sure to use a very light hand when applying and blending colors and being careful not to overblend.

May Favorites!

Happy Sunday, everyone! May was such a great month for makeup. There were so many new releases that I’ll be posting soon. In the meantime, here are some of my personal favorites from the past month.

IMG_1384.JPG

  1. Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Face Palette. I recently posted a full review on this palette but I’m still crazy about it! The packaging, the blushes, the highlighters… Everything about it is A1. I highly recommend purchasing it.
  2. Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil. Since I have super-dry skin, I’m a big fan of mixing a few drops of oil in with my moisturizers. It helps keep my skin hydrated throughout the day. At $72, this oil is a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way. This oil is also 100% pure, unrefined marula kernel oil and contains no chemicals or added fragrance, making it great for sensitive skin. It’s also high in antioxidants and Omegas 6 and 9 and is great for hydration and healing your skin.
  3. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini. I’ve talked about how awesome Jeffree Star’s liquid lipsticks are in the past, but I am really feeling this shade for summer. It’s a really nice warm nude that’s extremely flattering.
  4. Jordana Sweet Cream Matte Liquid Lip Color. I picked this up on a whim when I was at KMart a couple weeks ago and I am very impressed by the formula! It’s been hard for me to find a drugstore liquid lipstick that dries completely down, but this Jordana one is great. It applies smoothly and evenly and has comparable lasting power to my other liquid lipsticks. The shade I got, Strawberry Cheesecake, is a beautiful coral pink. At only $5 each, you can afford to stock up on all the shades!
  5. Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara. I have had this deluxe sample for a while but only recently decided to start using it. It’s become one of my favorite mascaras, possibly even a holy grail! It gives me the length and volume that I get some Too Faced’s Better Than Sex, but this wand keeps my lashes from looking clumpy. I am definitely going to be purchasing a full-size after I use this up.
  6. Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals. I’m sure you’re all tired of hearing about these highlighters, but I am really impressed with the quality! I ended up purchasing this one on eBay for around $10 but it’s completely worth it to me. The formula is very creamy and pigmented, applies well and is very glowy! Crown of my Canopy, the darker shade, is of the same quality. If you can find these anywhere, I highly recommend getting them.

That wraps up this month’s favorites! What were some of yours? Let me know in the comments below ❤

Greed – 7 deadly sins FOTD

This is a look I did in collaboration with a few other beauty bloggers/enthusiasts. Our theme was the 7 deadly sins. I chose to do Greed. ✨

7 deadly sins greed makeup

7 deadly sins greed makeup gold glitter

gold glitter lips jeffree star gemini

For this look, I knew I wanted to incorporate gold glitter. But I also wanted to use a lot of products to really get into a mindset of greed and make this look truly excessive. Here’s what I used!

products used for greed makeup

Face:

  • Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in N115
  • Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Foundation Stick
  • Sephora Bright Future green color corrector & Gel Serum Concealer in Meringue
  • NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kit in Fair (not pictured)
  • Sephora Contour Powder in Tranquil
  • Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Face Palette – Prosecco Pop
  • Sleek Makeup Solstice Highlighting Palette – Equinox
  • Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder in Precious Petals (yes, I stacked 3 highlighters to get that glow!)
  • NARS blush in Orgasm
  • Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel cream bronzer
  • RCMA No Color Loose Powder (not pictured)

Brows:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

Eyes:

  • Morphe 35O Palette
  • Equinox from Sleek Makeup Palette for inner corner highlight
  • Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy
  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Mascara (THE BEST mascara. New fave!)

Lips:

  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini
  • Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Midnight Cowboy

First impressions: I used several products for the first time with this look. I’ll just list them out with mini-reviews:

  • Morphe 35O Palette. I’ve had this for a long time but other than playing around with it when I first got it, I never really reach for it. Now that I’ve used it for a whole eye look, I don’t know why I haven’t! The mattes blended beautifully and the dark gold metallic shade I used for a lid base applied smoothly and I didn’t need to use Fix+ to make it pop like with other metallics.
  • Wet N Wild MegaGlo Highlighter. I was lucky enough to find both shades on eBay for a decent price, but you guys seriously need them. I’m sure literally every other blogger has told you that, but if you can find them, buy them immediately! Precious Petals is such a beautiful color.
  • Sleek Solstice Palette. I bought this because of Jaclyn Hill’s mini Snapchat review and I have no ragrets. It comes with 4 different colors, but because it’s less than $20, I felt comfortable buying it just for the shade Equinox. That’s the crown jewel of this palette for sure. I’ve never seen a highlighter before that was so glowy and just BAM when you apply it!
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini. This is the first Jeffree Star liquid lipstick that I’ve bought in a while. While I’m not sure how I feel about the rootbeer float scent, the formula is still amazing and I think the color is so flattering.
  • RCMA No Color Loose Powder. I purchased this after hearing so many rave reviews about it, but I think I’m still partial to Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder more. This one did the job, and the price is definitely right, but I feel like it just sucked what little moisture was to be had out of my undereyes.
  • Anastasia Cream Contour Kit in Fair. This was given to me by a friend. I have to say that I was underwhelmed by the formula of the creams. I expected them to be easier to work with. Luckily, I’d watched Miss Jazmina D work with hers enough on Snapchat and learned that you could apply it under your foundation. I did that and found that I liked how it looked much better that way. It was still tough to blend out at parts, but at least I didn’t have to worry about messing up my foundation while doing it. I’ll probably continue to use this kit, but only for nights out or when I have a lot of time to dedicate to my makeup.

Have you guys used any of these products too? What were your faves/flops? Be sure to follow me on Bloglovin! ❤

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette

Hey everyone! As most of you know, Becca and Jaclyn Hill teamed up to release a whole range of products in the new Champagne Collection. The whole collection releases May 26 exclusively on the Sephora website, including this face palette and an eyeshadow palette, poured Shimmering Skin Perfector, and liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector.

Luckily, Sephora released a few face palettes on the site last week so I scooped it up to review!

The Champagne Collection Face Palette contains three blushes, Champagne Pop, and Prosecco Pop. Rose Spritz contains 0.1 oz of product, Amaretto and Pamplemousse contain 0.12 oz of product, and both highlighters contain 0.19 oz of product each. According to Temptalia’s calculations, that means this palette has a total value of $106.16, which is more than twice the retail price!

First impressions of the packaging: luxe, sturdy, and well-designed. This palette does not feel cheap at all. The palette snaps closed, which adds extra stability especially since the pans are so soft.

The blush pans are all a decent size and I was able to use my usual brush with ease. The highlighter pans are large and I was able to use my large fan brush without dipping into the other pans.

becca cosmetics jaclyn hill champagne collection face palette blushes

The blushes are so pigmented! I was extremely surprised that they were so vivid since Becca’s blush formula is supposed to be light, sheer coverage. Rose Spritz reminds me a lot of NARS Orgasm and gives that perfect glowy sheen. Amaretto is a warm, rosy brown. This color is really great for warming up the complexion to make my face look a little sunkissed, but this color could also probably double as a bronzer in a pinch! Pamplemousse is… wow. So pigmented. So bright. It looks borderline neon on me and makes me look a little sunburned, but I think the right person could wear this well.

I own the full-size Champagne Pop and while there’s no color difference between the two, but I noticed the formula in this palette is a little drier than the original. This doesn’t really affect the application, but there is a bit more powder kicked up with the brush. Prosecco Pop is a true gold highlighter. It is slightly dark for me, but if I mix a little Champagne Pop in when I apply it, it works just fine!

Overall, I think this palette is a great release by Becca. The color selection works for a wide variety of skintones, the quality is A1, and you definitely get your money’s worth. This product is limited edition, so be sure to buy it as soon as it’s released! ❤

The best primers for dry skin for all budgets!

best primers for dry skin nivea post shave balm nyx angel veil becca backlight priming filter YSL touche eclat blur primer

Hey everyone! I hope you all had fabulous weekends and enjoyed the first day of Spring.

Primers can make or break how your foundation looks. They can give you a matte or dewy finish, color correct, blur pores, give luminosity, and many other effects. I have compiled a list of my favorite primers at four different price points. Since I have dry skin, these primers are all hydrating to keep flaky patches at bay.

Drugstore:

  • Nivea Men Post Shave Balm (Sensitive)—$5. This product was first hailed by NikkieTutorials as a miracle product that both hydrates and keeps your makeup on all day. It smells like man (think Old Spice), but I personally love that scent. I’ve found that this greatly improves the lasting power of my makeup and gives my skin that little boost of hydration that it needs. I’ve also found that this is able to be used with other primers without issue. Plus, you get over 3 ounces of product for $5-6, depending on where you buy it. That’s a spectacular deal for even the most budget-conscious makeup addict!
  • NYX Angel Veil Skin Perfecting Primer—$16. This primer is a pretty spot-on dupe for the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. Angel Veil is a great product if you’re looking for a smoothing primer to cover texture or acne scarring, that also feels light on the skin.

Mid-range:

  • Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter—$38. This primer lives up to the name. It is an excellent primer that gives your skin luminosity and a nice, dewy finish, while also blurring pores and any imperfections. This primer is perfect for when your skin is tired and you want it to look healthy and awake. It also smells amazing, like coconut!

High-end:

  • YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer—$52. This primer is one of my favorites. It costs a pretty penny, but its effects make it so worth it. It’s a very silicone-y primer, which means it flawlessly blurs large pores, fills in fine lines, and minimizes the appearance of any texture on the skin. It isn’t necessarily hydrating, but it doesn’t dry out my skin. The high level of silicones in the formula acts as a barrier to lock moisture into my skin. It smells similar to Guerlain products, like violets. To me, the smell is very luxurious. I can use this primer alone or apply it on my T-zone and cheeks over the Nivea Men’s Post-Shave Balm and it’s the perfect combination!

Do you guys have any primer recommendations for me? I’m always looking for new stuff to try out! Let me know in the comments below ❤

Bold FOTD with new products!

IMG_9463

A snap of my makeup from last night ✨ I tried out a lot of new products and wanted to do something bold for a night out.

Face:

  • Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation in Porcelain
  • Sephora Gel Serum Concealer in Meringue
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit: Luminous Bronze Light, Mood Exposure, and Dim Light
  • Sephora Contour Powder in Tranquil
  • Becca Moonstone & Kat Von D Thunderstruck for highlight

Brows:

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer in Taupe

Eyes:

  • Colourpop x Kathleen Lights Telepathy and Midnight from Where The Night Is
  • Viseart Neutral Matte Palette
  • Kat Von D Thunderstruck for brow highlight & inner corners
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara

Lips:

  • Lip Kit by Kylie in True Brown K

This was my first time wearing the Chantecaille foundation, Sephora concealer, and Colourpop shadows out and about. Overall, I’m really impressed with them all!

First impressions: The Chantecaille foundation is very lightweight and comfortable on the skin. It feels like nothing’s there! It’s not drying at all and while I noticed some slight creasing around my mouth (like with all foundations I use), this was much less noticeable. The Sephora concealer has comparable covers to my NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer but doesn’t look as cakey under my eyes.

Ulta haul!

Hey everyone! I got these products over the last month or so using gift cards from my birthday and Christmas. I picked up some old things, some new things, some makeup and skincare!

ulta christmas haul makeup skincare shampoo

Here’s everything that I got:

  • OGX Tsubaki Blossom Shampoo – This is a repurchase. I switched to the OGX line after the Herbal Essences Colorstay Shampoo I had been using started breaking my scalp out. The Tsubaki Blossom is definitely my favorite! It makes my hair super soft and smells amazing.
  • Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water – This was an impulse purchase that I saw when I was standing in the checkout line. Omg. Best impulse buy ever. It’s so gentle and removes makeup effortlessly. I can remove my whole face using only 2 cotton rounds, and with micellar water, you don’t even have to rinse! It’s extremely gentle and my face doesn’t feel irritated or tight after I use it. I definitely recommend it.
  • Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft Matte Hydrating Foundation – This is a new product that Maybelline recently released. I’ve never been into matte foundations, but the fact that it was matte and hydrating piqued my interest. The shade I picked, 10 Porcelain Ivory, was a touch too pink. I’m not completely sold on matte foundation yet, but this formula didn’t feel drying, which made me really happy. I’m going to continue to play with this and see if it mixes well with other foundations.
  • Laura Gellar Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in Gilded Honey – I wanted to love this product so much, as it’s a cult favorite among makeup enthusiasts. It was a bit too dark for my liking though. I ended up returning it before I took the swatch pictures below.
  • Urban Decay Tonic eyeshadow single – I’ve been wanting this eyeshadow for months, but it’s been sold out online or in-stores every time I’ve tried to buy it. I managed to snag the last one when I was in Ulta last time, and I’m pumped about it! It’s such a beautiful lavender color with a blue duochrome shift.
  • Becca Moonstone – I love this highlighter. It’s a lovely white gold color that can give you a soft glow or be built up to highlight on fleek levels. Becca’s formula is unparalleled, too. Their pressed highlighters are so finely milled and creamy, which make them really easy to work with.
  • Anastasia Self-Made palette – This is a great palette overall. It has a great mix of neutrals with brighter colors. The eyeshadow formula is very pigmented and buttery, but Spirit Rock and Pink Champagne are a little chalky. All shadows swatch well with minimal fallout.

Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation!

Hey everyone! The internet has been abuzz lately over Becca Cosmetics’ newest foundation.

becca aqua luminous perfecting foundation bottle

The Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation is a “light, buildable foundation that imparts subtle luminosity with a weightless feel.” It comes in eight different shades and is $44 USD. It’s currently available online at Sephora and Ulta, but I’m hoping it will soon be rolled out to their stores, Beautylish, and all other places that carry Becca!

Being that my skin is dry as a bone and I’m a glow fanatic, I jumped at the chance to try this out. I used Sephora’s online Color IQ system and decided on the shade Fair (“fair with neutral undertones”).

As soon as the package arrived, I had to put it on my face! The packaging is great. It looks almost identical to the Backlight Priming Filter bottle, but with a more sophisticated cap.

At first glance, the formula definitely lives up to Sephora’s claim. It’s light, buildable, and weightless. It is very watery and glided right onto my skin with ease. I applied one light layer over my whole face with a Real Techniques sponge, then tapped a little more over my cheeks to conceal more of the redness. It didn’t completely cover it, but it did help minimize it.

However, the luminosity is NOT subtle! This foundation has major glow going on! I was checking my face out in the mirror after I applied, ya know… how ya do, and noticed that my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose… basically my whole face was glowing like I’d just applied a highlighter! The luminosity made my skin look so dewy and healthy.

It definitely needs mattified with some powder on my forehead and chin to prevent my face from looking oily instead of dewy. I used MAC Fix + and UD All Nighter Setting Spray and still had some transfer onto my fingers when I touched my face, so I would likely have to bake under my contour and down to my jawline on the sides of my face to keep it from wearing away too quickly.

The downside, however, is the color of the foundation. It is a smidge too dark and a little yellow for my skintone. This would likely be better for a summer foundation when I am slightly darker, and I would have to mix it with another foundation so it’s a better match. Mixing it would help tone down the luminosity, though, so it’s something I would be open to experimenting with.

Here is a shade comparison between Fair and my favorite tinted moisturizer, NARS Finland:

nars tinted moisturizer vs becca aqua luminous perfecting foundation

As you can see, the shade difference is slight. Fair is just a touch darker and warmer than Finland. Obviously, I would prefer the foundation to be a perfect match haha, but this is something I can work with. I would like to see Becca expand the shade range to include more undertones as well as lighter and darker shades, to make this a foundation that could work for more people. I feel like their shade selection is pretty narrow, making it harder for WOC or paler girls to find a good match.

Do any of you have the Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments! ❤

Sephora & Ulta Haul!

Since the Sephora sale was this past weekend, I decided to buy some things for myself and a gift or two. 20% off all purchases is nothing to sneeze at, and I have to admit I went a little ham. Ulta was also having a really great promo, 200 bonus points on a purchase of $45 or more, so I got a few things that I’d been wanting from there as well! Here’s the full haul:

From Sephora, I got: Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Palette, Fresh Seaberry Skin Nutrition Booster, Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, Boscia Supercharge Overnight Moisture, Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Serum, and the Boscia Sake Treatment Water. I also redeemed some points to get the 500-point YSL set, a deluxe-sized MUFE HD Loose Powder, and a deluxe-sized Glamglow Flashmud Treatment. I’ve been wanting to try the MUFE Loose Powder for a while, so I had to jump on these point perks. The YSL set contains deluxe-sized mascara, Touche Eclat Blur Primer, Tint-in-Oil, and Black Opium perfume. The Blur Primer is one of my HGs, but I am really excited to try the other products!

I ended up placing two orders, so in the second one I added the Playful Perks sample bag rather than the 20% off Rouge code. It has a ton of samples in it, including NARS Audacious mascara, Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray, Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara, Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser Invisible Oil, Stella McCartney perfume, Sephora Oil Infusion in Bubbly Grenadine, Glamglow ThirstyCleanse Hydrating Cleanser, and Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm. This sample bag was available with only a $25 purchase, so I think it’s a pretty great deal. You get to try so many different products!

From Ulta, I got: Becca Backlight Priming Filter, NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks in Sandstorm and Tea & Cookies.

I’ve already tried several samples of the skincare products by Boscia and Fresh, so I’m expecting to really like them! The Caudalie Vinosource serum is one of my HGs. It’s so moisturizing and works really great with my sensitive skin. I’ve also tried a couple samples of the Becca primer, so I’m really pumped to dive into the full size. It makes my skin looks so luminous and amazing!

The Kat Von D Palette, NYX lipsticks, and Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer were all impulse purchases. I decided to try them all tonight to see what I thought. As for the Kat Von D Palette, I love it so far! The design of the palette is really cool and there are so many colors! It’s a great palette to add to your collection if you’re a color junkie or if you’re like me and have a ton of neutral palettes and want to add a little variety to your looks. I’m really impressed with the shadow formula—it’s very buttery, soft, and extremely pigmented. There is a good mix of matte and shimmer shadows, as well as neutrals, so you can totally do a cohesive eye look using just this palette.

kat von d mi vida loca eyeshadow palette

kat von d mi vida loca neutral swatches

The Kevyn Aucoin SSE and NYX lipsticks, however, are not keepers for me. I picked the wrong shade for the SSE, so it was much too fair. The formula is extremely thick and can be used as a concealer, highlighter, or as a foundation. It didn’t work with my moisturizer when I tried to mix it, and looked extremely cakey when I applied it straight to my skin, so this will definitely be returned the next time I go to Sephora.

The NYX lipsticks were okay. They have a very creamy formula that is easy to work with, but they don’t dry down matte like I expected them to. They just stay tacky on the lips, which bugs me to death. I know plenty of other people who love this lipstick formula, but it’s just not for me. Sandstorm, a tan-nude, isn’t a bad color. It reminds me a lot of a slightly darker KVD’s Bow N Arrow. I’m not feeling Tea & Cookies, though, as I’m not into baby pink colors. It also took a few layers to look completely opaque, so it felt… gunky on my lips.

All in all, I think this was a pretty successful haul! I can’t wait to start using all my new things. Did you guys pick up anything during the Rouge sale? Let me know what you got in the comments! ❤
