L’Oreal Pro Glow Foundation

Hey guys! As most of you know, L’Oreal recently released a new line of foundations. The Infallible Pro-Glow foundations are formulated with a radiant finish and made for normal to dry skintypes. Pro-Glow is billed as a 24-hour foundation, but I don’t know anyone that would wear it for that long! It comes in a range of 12 shades. Matching to drugstore foundations is tricky for me, so I picked up 201 Classic Ivory, 203 Nude Beige, and 204 Natural Buff to try out.

I could not find an exact match in any of these shades. 201 was much too light, while 204 was way too dark. 203 was only a hair darker than my HG foundation shade (MUFE HD N115) at first, but it oxidized once it dried to a much darker color. I was able to mix a decent match between 201 & 203, but it wasn’t perfect.

As far as wear, this foundation was impeccable. I used it with my usual primers and routine and it applied flawlessly. At the end of the night, when I was about to remove my makeup after being in nightclubs and outside in the humid summer weather for the last 5 hours, it had not budged an inch! The only downside was that there was some light creasing around my smile lines, but that happens to me with all foundations that I try. Pro-Glow did not emphasize dry patches, break up around my nose & T-zone, and did not wear away along my jawline and chin. I will not be testing it to see if it truly stays put for 24 hours, but if it didn’t budge in this instance, I can easily see it staying put for a whole day, no problem.

At roughly $12 per 1-ounce bottle, this foundation is a great find. I do wish that the shade range was a bit more inclusive, so more people could find a match, but I think those that can will be very happy with this product. It is available on Ulta’s website as well as on Amazon.

Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation!

Hey everyone! The internet has been abuzz lately over Becca Cosmetics’ newest foundation.

The Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation is a “light, buildable foundation that imparts subtle luminosity with a weightless feel.” It comes in eight different shades and is $44 USD. It’s currently available online at Sephora and Ulta, but I’m hoping it will soon be rolled out to their stores, Beautylish, and all other places that carry Becca!

Being that my skin is dry as a bone and I’m a glow fanatic, I jumped at the chance to try this out. I used Sephora’s online Color IQ system and decided on the shade Fair (“fair with neutral undertones”).

As soon as the package arrived, I had to put it on my face! The packaging is great. It looks almost identical to the Backlight Priming Filter bottle, but with a more sophisticated cap.

At first glance, the formula definitely lives up to Sephora’s claim. It’s light, buildable, and weightless. It is very watery and glided right onto my skin with ease. I applied one light layer over my whole face with a Real Techniques sponge, then tapped a little more over my cheeks to conceal more of the redness. It didn’t completely cover it, but it did help minimize it.

However, the luminosity is NOT subtle! This foundation has major glow going on! I was checking my face out in the mirror after I applied, ya know… how ya do, and noticed that my cheekbones, the bridge of my nose… basically my whole face was glowing like I’d just applied a highlighter! The luminosity made my skin look so dewy and healthy.

It definitely needs mattified with some powder on my forehead and chin to prevent my face from looking oily instead of dewy. I used MAC Fix + and UD All Nighter Setting Spray and still had some transfer onto my fingers when I touched my face, so I would likely have to bake under my contour and down to my jawline on the sides of my face to keep it from wearing away too quickly.

The downside, however, is the color of the foundation. It is a smidge too dark and a little yellow for my skintone. This would likely be better for a summer foundation when I am slightly darker, and I would have to mix it with another foundation so it’s a better match. Mixing it would help tone down the luminosity, though, so it’s something I would be open to experimenting with.

Here is a shade comparison between Fair and my favorite tinted moisturizer, NARS Finland:

As you can see, the shade difference is slight. Fair is just a touch darker and warmer than Finland. Obviously, I would prefer the foundation to be a perfect match haha, but this is something I can work with. I would like to see Becca expand the shade range to include more undertones as well as lighter and darker shades, to make this a foundation that could work for more people. I feel like their shade selection is pretty narrow, making it harder for WOC or paler girls to find a good match.
