The Battle of Metallic Liquid Lipsticks – Milani vs. Colourpop vs. Kylie Cosmetics

Hey everyone! I have a special post for y’all today. As you guys know, metallic lipsticks (especially metallic LIQUID lipsticks) are all the rage right now. With brand working as hard as possible to release their own version of the trend, it can be hard to discern which are the best!

So today, I’ll be comparing the three most popular brands for you: Milani Amore Mattallics, Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Metallic Lip, and Kylie Cosmetics Metal Matte Lipstick.

Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Metallic Liquid Lipsticks – $6 each, These lipsticks are the cheapest of the three brands I’m comparing. There are currently 8 shades available in the Ultra Metallic line, but I only picked up Maneater, a metallic rose gold, and Zebra, a true metallic bronze. The Ultra Metallic lipsticks feel similar to their Ultra Satin line, which means they don’t dry to a matte, transfer-free finish.

The lipstick has a flat doe foot applicator which allows for a smooth, even application of the product, and makes it easy to get a crisp line. However, once the lipstick sets, it becomes extremely sticky – much stickier than the Ultra Satin lipsticks! I’m a diehard matte liquid lipstick fan, so I may be biased, but to me they are so sticky that it’s distracting. You can feel your lips pulling apart whenever you move your mouth! I feel like the longevity of this lipstick is affected by the stickiness of it, which defeats the purpose of a liquid lipstick in my opinion. Although Maneater is one of my favorite colors of the metallic liquid lipsticks I own, I just can’t get past the drawbacks of the formula.

Kylie Cosmetics Metal Matte Lipstick – $18 each, Although I wasn’t particularly impressed with the first release of Kylie’s Metal Matte range, I decided to take the plunge again with KyMajesty since it is such an interesting color! I also wanted to see if Kylie had fixed any of the drawbacks with her first formula. But, even though Kylie has changed the doe foot – it is identical to Colourpop’s – the formula is still lacking.

Although KyMajesty is a brilliant color and so unique, I can’t wear this lipstick. It’s ridiculously sticky (just like Colourpop’s), not very opaque, and wears off very patchily & noticeably in only an hour’s time without eating or drinking. The formula of KyMajesty is a little grittier than that of Heir or Reign due to the glitter, so that’s another drawback. Lastly, and it might just be me, but I don’t think my tube was completely full? I really hope another company dupes this color soon, because the formula is definitely a no-go for me. This product is straight-up not worth the price.

Milani Amore Mattallic Liquid Lipsticks – $8.99 each, The Milani Amore Mattallics are the only lipstick in this post that dry to a matte, transfer-free finish. There are about 8 different shades in the range, but I am reviewing Chromatic Addict, a metallic beige; Matterialistic, a bronze-y rose gold; and Mattely in Love, a true red.

These lipsticks have a strong cake batter scent, but I think it smells delicious. I’m also not sensitive to most fragrances, so these might bother you if you are. This lipstick has a long, flat doe foot applicator. It took a little practice to get the hang of applying with this applicator, but I think it actually gives a more even application than other applicators I’ve tried. The product applies evenly, is very pigmented, and dries rather quickly. Once it’s on, it does not move! I’ve worn all three out for nights on the town, and when I return home 5-6 hours later after much food and drink, it still looks as good as it did when I left.

As you guys can probably surmise from my reviews, the Milani Amore Mattallics are by far my favorite metallic lipstick. Between the shade selection, the quality, and the price, you just can’t beat them! To be honest, I would easily pay three times the price for these! They are just that good. I hope Milani makes these permanent or at least expands the line to add new colors before discontinuing them altogether.

Have you guys tried these liquid lipsticks? What do you think of them? What was your fave? Let me know in the comments below ❤

Colourpop Matte X Lipsticks!

Hey everyone! Colourpop has been working on the Matte X Lippie Stix formula for a while now. The Matte Xs are extra matte, containing light-diffusing powders to eliminate any shine in the finish. So far, two shades have been released: Trust Me…, a true red, and Poppin, a vibrant hot pink. Trust Me… was released around Valentine’s Day as a limited edition product, while Poppin was released as a freebie with orders of $10 or more in celebration of Colourpop reaching two million followers on Instagram.

Both shades have been in the traditional Lippie Stix packaging with a narrow, angle tip bullet. The formula of the Matte X shades remind me of the MAC Retro Matte lipsticks, but better. I have had Ruby Woo for years and I love it for it’s ultra matte appearance and long-wearing formula, but the formula is so dry that it drags hard on the lips when being applied. Both Matte X shades apply with ease. The size of the bullet makes it easy to get a precise line on the lips and in my experience, once the lipstick sets, it’s pretty much transfer-proof.

I wore Trust Me… out to a concert one evening over MAC Prep & Prime. I was out for several hours, had some drinks, and when I got home, it was still absolutely! I’m not kidding. I actually had to use a makeup wipe to remove it because it would not budge. I have not yet had the opportunity to try out Poppin in the same way, but given that the formula is identical, I’m expecting the same results.

Long story short, I’m in love with the Matte X formula! It’s exactly what I want in a matte bullet lipstick. I hope that Colourpop releases a whole line of these amazing lipsticks soon, because I’m obsessed and I need more!

Colourpop Ultra Satin lipsticks!

Hey everyone! I hope everyone’s had a relaxing weekend. Colourpop is back at it again with the Ultra Satin lipsticks. These are liquid lipsticks that don’t dry down to a matte finish, but rather set to a comfortable satin finish.

I picked up five different shades in the launch to test a good range of the shades: The Rabbit, Frick N Frack, Too Lips, Marshmallow, and Petit Four.

colourpop ultra satin liquid lipsticks

The Ultra Satin formula reminds me a lot of the Ofra Cosmetics liquid lipsticks. They are a thick, mousse-y consistency. But unlike the Ofra formula, which is stiff like icing, the Ultra Satin formula is a lot creamier. It spreads easily when applied and is very opaque.

It takes a couple minutes for the lipstick to set up. After that, it’s a little tacky, but it doesn’t feel slippery like a traditional lipstick would. It does transfer in a kiss test and wears away while eating similar to a traditional lipstick, so these don’t have the lasting power that other liquid lipsticks have. The Ultra Satin lipsticks can be layered for touch ups, which I am definitely a fan of because that’s the only thing I dislike about most matte liquid lipsticks.

colourpop ultra satin liquid lipsticks the rabbit

The Rabbit is definitely my favorite! It’s a beautiful hot pink color with blue reflects. The formula is a little thinner than the rest, but I found it to apply evenly, smoothly, and it sets up quickly.

frick n frack colourpop ultra satin liquid lipsticks

Frick N Frack is a rosy terracotta color that I think would be perfect for fall! This formula is thicker than that of The Rabbit, and the standard consistency for the other shades.

toolips colourpop ultra satin liquid lipsticks

Toolips is such a beautiful color! This deepened plum brown applies so smoothly and doesn’t magnify the appearance of lip lines.

marshmallow colourpop ultra satin liquid lipstick

Marshmallow is not a color I would usually wear, but this lavender grey is surprisingly wearable! It’s perfect for spring and applies very smoothly.

petit four colourpop ultra satin liquid lipstick

Petit Four is described as a deep charcoal grey, but it looks more like a slate blue when on my lips. This formula is a lot drier and stiffer than the rest. I had a few issues with pigmentation but they were mostly resolved with a second layer.

All in all, I love these Ultra Satin lipsticks! I actually ordered one of the nude shades, Magic Wand, a few hours ago so I can try it out too. Nothing can ever replace my matte liquid lipsticks, but these are a great alternative if my lips are super dry or if I’m just going out for a couple hours.

Have you tried the Ultra Satin lipsticks? What do you think of them? ❤

Colourpop Lumiere vs. Lumiere 2

Hi everyone! I hope you all have had a great weekend. I’ve been a little under the weather this week, so I took some time off to rest and rejuvenate.

Colourpop’s Lippie Stix in Lumiere is one of my favorite MLBB lipcolors. It’s a beautiful mauve pink that’s just slightly darker than my natural lip color. It gives polish to natural and no-makeup-makeup and can also hold its own with more dramatic eye looks. It’s also an almost-exact dupe for one of my favorite lipsticks, Pussycat by Tom Ford.

All this being said, I was extremely excited when KathleenLights recently announced that Colourpop was releasing Lumiere 2, the Ultra Matte sister to the original. Liquid lipsticks are my absolute favorite, so finding a liquid version of my favorite MLBB would make my life complete.

I ordered Lumiere 2 as soon as it was released on the CP site. I was so excited to try it out. I watched Kathleen’s video about the shade, so I knew the color may not be exactly the same due to the difference in formula. However, since it looked so similar on her, I assumed I had nothing to worry about. That is, until I swatched it.

colourpop lumiere vs lumiere 2

Don’t get me wrong, the Ultra Matte version is a beautiful shade, but it’s not similar to Lumiere on me at all. While Lumiere is a pinky mauve, Lumiere 2 is a dusty mauvey brown, similar to Androgyny, as you can see below.

lumiere 2 vs clueless lolita and androgyny

Lumiere 2 was made with the new Ultra Matte formula, which is surprisingly comfortable and easy to work with. It doesn’t seem to crumble as much as the OG formula did and I can’t wait for the rest of the collection to be reformulated as well.

Did any of you pick up Lumiere 2? What did you think of it? Let me know in the comments ❤

Colourpop x Kathleen Lights Where the Night Is collab!

Hey everyone! KathleenLights recently released a second collab with Colourpop. The Where The Night Is collection consists of an eyeshadow quad, two Lippie Stix, and two matching lip liners.

colourpop kathleen lights where the night is collection

The Where The Night Is quad is made up of four shimmer shades. Weenie is a pinky rose gold with a pearlized finish. Telepathy is a bright gold with a green undertone with an ultra-metallic finish. Porter is a warm burgundy with gold glitter in a metallic finish. Midnight is a gold glittery pigment with a black undertone in a metallic finish.

The Taurus Lippie Stix and matching liner are both a mid-tone yellow brown. The Lippie Stix has a matte finish.

And now, swatches!

where the night is collection swatches weenie porter telepathy midnight taurus

The quality of the eyeshadows is pretty much on-par with the rest of the Colourpop line. They’re super creamy, pigmented, and relatively easy to blend out. The colors Kathleen selected work really well together and you can create a few different shade combinations! I love all the shadows, but my favorite is definitely Telepathy. It’s such a unique color and really pops on the lid. Midnight is also really great for a dark color. It’s surprisingly wearable!

Taurus is also similar quality to their other lip products. It’s a really great, wearable brown color that gives off the 90s vibe that everyone loves. The Lippie Stix is really pigmented and gives an opaque application in just a couple swipes. The matching lip liner is as great as the rest of the line! Colourpop’s lip liners are my favorite EVER because they’re easy to apply, cheap, and come in so many different colors. I basically want them all.

Overall, this is a great collection and KathleenLights really knocked it out of the park! The colors are perfect and are so on-trend right now. I can tell this collection will be a big success. If you haven’t bought any of it yet, go ahead and order some! The eyeshadows can be ordered in singles or as a quad, which is a new option that CP unveiled with this release. I think it’s a great idea because I have skipped out on a couple of their previous collections because I wasn’t feeling all four colors enough to buy them. Hopefully they continue this with future collections!

Have you bought any of the Where The Night Is collection? What were your favorites? ❤

Swatches & First Impressions: Colourpop Holiday Sets

Happy Sunday, everyone! Yesterday I got a pretty sweet delivery, the new Colourpop Holiday Sets that I ordered! I’m really looking forward to playing with these some more, but I thought I’d give my first impressions and some swatches for you to see!

colourpop cosmetics holiday sets

I bought the eyeshadow and gel liner sets. I love the packaging of these! They were packed so securely in a large box, but the sets themselves came with a pretty large mirror on the inside of each lid. Each product fit securely in the box so nothing rolled around or could break. Packaging is one of many things that Colourpop does very well. Although their products are very inexpensive, the packaging is well-designed, sturdy, and sleek.

And now, on to the swatches!

Overall, I’m very impressed with this collection! The eyeshadows are all so beautiful, wonderfully pigmented, and super creamy. The gel liners are also really creamy and pigmented and have insane staying power. After these swatches, I had to scrub like crazy to fully remove them!

The colors in this collection remind me so much of the holiday season. They aren’t your stereotypical colors like bright red or holly green, but they are so glittery and festive that I couldn’t help but get in the Christmas spirit when I was swatching them! These colors will be perfect for holiday parties, New Year’s Eve parties… basically any event this season!

Did you buy any of the Colourpop holiday sets? What was your favorite? Let me know in the comments! ❤

Side note: I feel like I should apologize for the lighting in the swatch pictures! My new apartment doesn’t have as much natural light as my previous place did, so I’m trying to work out the kinks until I can get a real lighting setup. 🙂
