Jouer Cosmetics Mermaid Collection Palette & Liquid Lipsticks

Hey everyone! Today I’m going to be reviewing some items from the Jouer Cosmetics Summer 2016 Mermaid Collection. These are the first products I’ve ever purchased from the brand, so I was eager to try them out upon receiving them in the mail.

The Mermaid Iridescent Eyeshadow Palette comes in a pack of 4 eyeshadows, each weighing in at roughly 2 grams. The palette is made of 4 eyeshadow singles that interlock to make one cohesive piece. As a result, they can be rearranged or broken up as you see fit. I think this is a pretty unique set up and I can see it working well for travel or if you want to use some of the colors with other Jouer palettes.

All four shades are iridescent. Three are pastels and one, Dreamer, is a deep shimmery teal with a black base. Overall, I think the colors compliment each other well and that they work well together to create a variety of summery looks.

This was my first experience with the Jouer eyeshadow formula. Coconut, Pink Pearl, and Splash all have a pretty dry, smooth, silky consistency, which is not a bad thing, just a change from the market’s saturation with buttery shadows. These three shadows are not boldly pigmented but because all 3 are consistent, I believe this was the intention of the palette. All 3 apply beautifully and blend with ease. I think it would be smart to use these over a sticky base to prevent fallout and to keep you from having glitter all over your cheeks by the end of the day.

Dreamer, however, has a completely different consistency from the other 3 shades in this palette. When swatching this shadow, the formula feels more moist, dense, and has the tendency to ball up under my fingertip if I swatch too many rotations. There is no shortage of pigmentation with this shade, though. It applies easily and works well with the other shadow formula. I would also use this over a sticky base to prevent fallout. I had no issue with any of the four shadows in terms of longevity. They all wore well and did not crease.

In addition to the Mermaid Palette, I also bought two of Jouer’s newly released Longwear Lip Cremes. I was excited to try these because I had heard so many glowing reviews from various people online. I chose Daiquiri, a warm metallic coral, and Watermelon, a matte true warm red.

Both formulae applied smoothly, evenly, and dried to a matte finish. Both also had a more mousse-y consistency, which made them easier to control when applying. Watermelon did have some issues with sinking into the lines of my lips fairly quickly application, which was very disappointing since it was my favorite shade of the two! Lasting power for both of these was fairly standard for a liquid lipstick.

Between the two different products, I think my favorite was the Mermaid Eyeshadow Palette. The Longwear Lip Cremes were nice, but given that Watermelon sank into lip lines and I didn’t find Daiquiri to be flattering to my skintone, I can’t see myself getting much use out of them. With the eyeshadow palette, I can see it being very useful and being able to transition it into the winter months when paired with the right products.
