Hey everyone! I picked up the MAC x Dita Von Teese collab when it first launched because I am a big Dita Von Teese fan and I just love red lipstick! It can add flair to a simple look and make you look so chic and polished. A lot of people think they can’t wear red lipstick, but the trick is finding the right undertone that works for you, because there are so many different shades!
Von Teese is described as a “vivid, tomato red.” It seems to be a pretty neutral-toned red, maybe leaning slightly warm. Ruby Woo is definitely bluer-toned, while Lady Danger is much warmer & more orange. The tube is similar to traditional MAC tubes, except with a gloss finish and Von Teese’s signature printed on it. Her signature is also pressed into the side of the bullet.
The formula is very creamy and comfortable. I found it to be a bit easier to apply and wear than other MAC mattes that I’ve tried. The pigmentation was great. I got opaque, even coverage in a standard swipe. I didn’t need to go back over it for more coverage, just to clean up some lines.
Overall, this is a really great red. I think it would be perfect for someone who’s buying their first red lipstick or for a red lipstick addict who’s expanding their collection. The possibilities are pretty endless and this is one collab that MAC really knocked out of the park.
