Product Review – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit

Happy Monday everyone! Now that Thanksgiving has officially passed, it’s time to start preparing for Christmas! I’m sure many of you already have your trees and homes decorated, and even a few over-achievers already have a couple presents wrapped and placed under the tree. Others, like me, are hustling to try to get shopping done before the big day!

Since Christmas is approaching, I decided it was the perfect time to review a holiday release for you guys. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit was one of the first 2015 releases that made me vaporlock and be like OMG I NEED IT. I am a huge fan of their Ambient Lighting Powders, so a palette that contained ALPs, blushes, and a bronzer was aces in my book!

So far, I am really impressed with this palette. It’s very sleek and looks similar to Hourglass’ other ALPs and palettes. It’s compact and sturdy, so it’s perfect for travel.

The powders are extremely soft and very finely milled, which makes them apply and blend like a dream. The 3 ALPs, Diffused Light, Iridescent Light, and Dim Light, fit a wide variety of skintones. Fairer skintones can use Diffused Light as an allover powder and Dim Light as a bronzer to warm the complexion, while medium to deep skintones can use Diffused to brighten the undereye area and Dim as an allover powder. Iridescent Light is glittery and perfect for a subtle highlight.

The blushes and bronzer are both extremely pigmented, so a little goes a very long way. This means the palette will last you a very long time, so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth! I only need a couple taps of the blush and bronzer to do both cheeks.

Let me just say, though, this palette does have a couple drawbacks. For one, it’s quite expensive ($80 USD). It’s also a lot smaller than I originally expected, mainly because scale is extremely hard to judge in pictures online. The pans are just a bit wider than a quarter, which can make it difficult to use with some larger brushes.

Other than these issues, though, it’s a great palette and in my opinion, it’s one of the best holiday releases of 2015! You owe it to yourself to get the Ambient Lighting Edit for yourself or a fellow makeup addict! ❤
